Penstemon cardinalis or cardinal penstemon- has tall flower spikes, to 30″,  that are loaded with ruby red flowers. Flowers later in the year May, June, and July. An easy one to grow it handles full sun to part shade and a some extra water or fairly drought tolerant too. When established, for best results, it should get a good monthly watering. A great one for meadow gardens or perennial borders and hummingbirds too!
