Description

Asclepias fascicularis or narrow leaf milkweed. A native perennial that grows all through California. The food plant of monarch and queen butterfly caterpillars. They go dormant in winter and come back in early spring. They will get yellow aphids but you don’t want to “spray” them and poison the plant for the caterpillars. The ladybugs will eventually find and eat the aphids. This is also an excellent plant for feeding pollinators from bees to butterflies and tarantula hawk wasps.
