Planting for Summer…flowering into fall

Planting for Summer ….flowering into fall.

While fall/winter is the best time to plant natives “some” can be planted in summer and bloom even through fall and into winter. Consider planting desert mallows. These are native to California and the southwest. In California they flower mostly orange but in the southwest you also get some pinks and they do “cross” producing a winder range of colors. You can plant them now in full sun with a good 1x week watering (maybe 2x) in summer. Cut them back about 1/3rd when they get ratty and they will regrow and flower again. Excellent for feeding bees and tortoises too.
