Collecting Seeds from our pacific coast iris hybrids

Collecting Seeds from our pacific coast iris hybrids. This is the time of year when the seeds from our pacific coast irises are ready for harvest. We collect the seed capsules from our plants when the tips are beginning to split and put them in a paper bag. Next we separate the seeds from the seed pods/capsules and put them on a piece of construction paper during the day to dry a little more then in a paper envelope and they are organized by name and hybrid parents and stored until fall. In fall we sow the seeds to seed flats and in 60 to 90 days germination begins. We donate a good portion of our seeds to the Society for Pacific Coast Native Irises for their Seed Exchange where the are offered and sold to our members online.
