Things to do- fall planting season!

Right now in the garden you should be doing a but of cutting and cleaning. Planning where and what to plant and planting. The best season to plant for Calif. natives is now through about the end of winter. While you can plant a lot of things before and after you can’t plant everything and now you can.

Also, look at those Calif. natives and other drought tolerant plants that are in flower or going into flower. Most things flower in spring so when you see flowers during fall/winter you should add them to your garden – besides butterflies come in fall/winter and they need something to eat- bees and hummingbirds too.

Here are some to consider:

Chocolate daisy- Berlanderia lyrata- southwest

berlanderialyrata

Desert mallows- Sphaeralcea- generally orange but there are other colors-full sun flowers all year.

sphaeralceamagentabob copy 25

California fuchsia- Epilobium or Zauschneria – red tube flowers in summer and fall.
